What is Online Notarization and is it legal? Yes, online notarization is permitted in accordance with Ontario Reg. 431/20 and other similar provincial legislation. The Process: (1). Once you've booked your appointment online, you will receive a confirmation email with your video conference link. (2). You must respond to this email with your I.D. and document(s) attached. Each signer must provide a copy of a valid government-issued I.D.; such as Driver's License, Passport, Permanent Residence Card and Citizenship Card. If you do not have a federally issued government I.D. then you must provide two alternate, non-expired, provincially issued I.D; one of which must have a photo and signature. (3). On the day of your appointment, you must join the video conference using the the link that was provided to you in the confirmation email. (4). All signing parties must be present but do not need to be in the same location. (5). Each party will electronically sign their document during the video call. DO NOT sign the before you have met with the notary. (6). After everyone has signed, the notary will also e-sign and add their e-stamp to the document. The final signed copy will be sent to all signing parties by email. A Notary Public has all the powers of a Commissioner for taking Oaths and Affidavits. In Ontario Canada, they are designated by virtue of office and their authority does not expire. - They can verify that signatures, marks, and copies of documents are true and genuine. - They can witness, attest to and certify documents like Wills and Power of Attorney. - Notarized documents can be used locally within Canada as well as internationally.
